ME³ To Help Facilitate Conversation About Human Trafficking In Youth October 2, 2007
Slavery ended over 100 years ago. Or did it?
Many times, people are surprised to hear that slavery - or, human trafficking - is a thriving and booming industry in today's world, rivaling drug trafficking. Human Trafficking is a term to define the "recruiting, harboring, obtaining, transportation of a person by use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of subjecting them to involuntary acts, such as acts related to commercial sexual exploitation (including prostitution) or involuntary labor." Men, women, and children - some as young as four or five years old - are trafficked around the globe, even to locations in the United States and North Carolina's cities.
On October 30, Triangle Impact will host one of its Citizen Academy events - a group event where participants can come learn about and discuss a particular issue or cause - on the topic of human trafficking in youth. Amber Smith, ME³ President, will help facilitate the Citizen Academy 'Conversation Cafe' discussion on this important topic.
